SENER has completed the tender design for the civil works and systems packages for Phase 1 of Makkah Metro Network in Saudi Arabia. These are two tenders prepared by two different building consortiums. The employer is the Development Commission of Makkah and Mashaaer (DCOMM), a Saudi Arabia’s government body.

The scope of both projects is Phase 1 of Makkah Metro Network, with 45 km of track and 22 stations, 13 of them underground and nine above ground, as well as the headquarters building, and stabling and maintenance facilities.

For the tender related to the civil works package, SENER has carried out the engineering services for the preparation of the tender documentation for the design and build contract. This work has involved an analysis of the employer´s requirements, design proposals, technical reports, drawings and bill of quantities of tunnel, viaducts, stations, and stabling and maintenance facilities, as well as supporting the client in the preparation of the technical proposal, including drafting numerous documents and coordinating the entire proposal.

For the systems package tender, SENER has produced specifications, technical reports, calculations, drawings, and bill of quantities of the electromechanical systems, architectural finishes and track.

In the future, Makkah Metro Network will consist of four lines that will connect the city’s main urban areas. It will have a total length of 123.5 km and 66 stations. Construction will be organized in three phases. The design and construction of Phase 1 will begin in 2015 and has an estimated duration of five years.
